David lives and works in a quiet county town in the the North East of England where he grew up and was educated. After completing a graphic design degree, he developed his cartoon drawing skills and, in his early twenties, started a long relationship with Punch, a high profile satirical magazine in the UK. He continued to provide individual, double page spreads and front cover cartoons until Punch closed in 1992.
Throughout a long and varied career, David has collaborated on projects ranging from advertising to children's book illustration and sketch writing for the tv show, Spitting Image. He has contributed to numerous UK national newspapers and from the mid-1990's, he worked for The Times (London), producing daily pocket cartoon for the front page, the business pages, IT and motoring supplements and many other sections of the paper, including online.
David has always enjoyed illustration and over the past few years has dedicated more time to developing ideas. He uses pen and ink for open line and color work. He is equally at home creating cityscapes, landscapes or characters. His illustrations and cartoons have been featured in exhibitions in France, throughout the UK and in the V&A in London.
He loves movies and is an avid collector of film soundtracks.
